CARRIER STRIKE Version 1.1 Changes

OPERATIONAL LOSSESWhen aircraft land there is a chance they will become damaged. For each aircraft that land there is a percentage chance of damage equal to TIME-IN-AIR x 2.

AIRCRAFT REPAIRSEach air group may repair 1 aircraft per turn on the following turns: 2200,2220,2240,2300,2320,2340

DECLINING BATTLESThe computer opponent will decline battle if it has insufficient carrier forces to fight a competitive battle. In the 1.0 version the computer opponent would always fight if it had 2 carriers, one of which was a fleet carrier.

EMERGENCY LANDINGSThe human player is now given some control over diverting aircraft when their home carrier has flight deck damage. The LIST CAP, LIST TF SEARCH and EXAMINE STRIKE functions may be used to divert aircraft to a different carrier. Only the hilighted units on the display may be diverted. Select the unit to be diverted by pointing the mouse at the unit and clicking the left button or pressing the letter key (A-?) that corresponds to the unit. The eligible carriers will be listed along with the number of aircraft already assigned to them and the range the aircraft must fly to reach them. Aircraft may still be automatically diverted when their home carriers are badly damaged.

WAKE ISLAND (December 1941)As the Japanese invasion forces returned to Wake Island, the USN sent the SARATOGA and LEXINGTON to support the defenders. The Japanese detached HIRYU and SORYU from the Pearl Harbor Strike Force to cover the attack. Due to difficulties in refueling and coordinating their effort the USN carriers aborted their rescue mission.

PLAN ORANGE (January 1942)Presumes the Japanese did not raid Pearl Harbor. The USN Battleships begin their advance across the Pacific as the Japanese invade Wake Island. LEXINGTON, SARATOGA and ENTERPRISE encounter AKAGI, KAGA, HIRYU and SORYU each scouting ahead of their respective battle fleets.

ROSSEL ISLAND (March 1942)Presumes the USN lost carriers ENTERPRISE and LEXINGTON at Pearl Harbor. British carriers INDOMITABLE, ILLUSTRIOUS and HERMES with USN carriers YORKTOWN and HORNET attempt to block an early Japanese strike towards Port Moresby. GUADALCANAL (August 1942)Presumes the Japanese never attacked Midway. The Allies attempt to hold their beachead on Guadalcanal against a 'full strength' Japanese counterattack. Carriers AKAGI, KAGA, HIRYU, SORYU, SHOKAKU, ZUIKAKU, RYUJO and ZUIHO cover Japanese Transport, Bombardment and Surface Combat task forces. American carriers SARATOGA, ENTERPRISE, YORKTOWN, HORNET and WASP rush to the aid of the Marines at Henderson Field.

OPERATION KE (February 1943)Presumes the Japanese persisted in their attempts to retake Henderson Field. Japanese carriers ZUIKAKU, JUNYO, HIYO and ZUIHO cover a major Tokyo Express mission. The Allies counter with carriers ENTERPRISE and SARATOGA to cover their own resupply effort.

CARRIER STRIKE Campaign 1947 Changes

INTRODUCTIONThe Campaign 1947 scenario presumes that the arms race between the Japanese and the Allies continued for 5 more years before war broke out in the Pacific. Campaign 1947 will allow for up to 12 battles (1 battle per month from January to December). New ships, aircraft, weapons and rules will be introduced for this scenario.

AIR TO SURFACE MISSILESSpecialized land based air groups will be equipped with air to surface anti-ship guided missiles. The ASMN-2 Bat I will be carried by TBF and A-26 bombers. The ASMN-3 Bat II will be carried by the B-29. The MXY7 Okha will be carried by the BETTY. The MXY9 Shuken will be carried by the RITA. Bombers carrying air to surface missiles will be immune to flak. Flak WILL reduce the chance of the missile hitting it's target.

NIGHT OPERATIONSSpecialized fighter, bomber and patrol air groups may be capable of flying NIGHT combat missions. Night capable air groups will have an 'N' after their name on the flight deck display and the airfield display. These units may fly CAP, Long-Range CAP and Search Missions during night turns. Air strikes may not attack at night but armed search aircraft may attack enemy ships at night. Night fighters flying CAP may engage and destroy enemy search aircraft the same as in daylight.
